If you're looking for the best Vegan Bakery in New York City, you don't have to go far. Erin Mckenna's Bakery in the lower east side is filled with delicious vegan cake, vegan cookies, vegan cupcakes, and well, you guessed it, everything a vegan with a sweet-tooth could ever desire!
From the pretty pink walls to the helpful staff, Erin Mckenna's reverberates with friendliness. The small shop opened in 2005 with two goals: "1. Create a Bakery free of harmful ingredients and 2. Wear cute uniforms," and depending on your definition of cute, they've succeeded on both fronts. Over a decade later, the bakery has grown into a well-known gem for all those with allergies, diet restrictions or just regular people who enjoy healthier treats. And the uniforms remain fun, styled in an old "I Love Lucy" fashion.
All of the baked goods at Erin Mckenna's are dairy-free, soy-free, egg-free and gluten-free. The sweet flavors come from fresh agave and evaporated palm juice (Vegan sugar). My favorite was their dense chocolate cake drizzled in a dark chocolate sauce. The staff cut with a heavy hand leaving you with a slice big enough to share between at least two people. The baked goods are rich in flavor unlike many other vegan and gluten free treats.
What once was a small team with a big mission has spread their love for baked goods without harmful ingredients around the country. Erin Mckenna's now has storefronts in Los Angeles, Orlando, Disney Springs and can ship you vegan cake, cupcakes and cookies right to your doorstep. So next time you're craving some vegan dessert, try out the dark chocolate cake or any of the numerous other items on Erin Mckenna's menu.
