1. Jane the Bakery

Jane the Bakery is a magical bakery. With an open kitchen, you can see the bakers hard at work behind the scenes crafting the perfect pastry, bread, or dessert. The bakery opened in 2016 and makes all of the pastries and bread for Jane's two other locations. For the founder, Amanda Micahel, Jane the Bakery is a creative space for find the balance in life. When you eat a pastry, it should be the best, handmade one you've ever tasted! Try out the bakery's Lemon Poppy knot, fluffy croissants and delicious cookies!

2. b. Patisserie

b. Patisserie is modern cafe with incredible pastries, a bustling atmosphere and wonderful staff. The talented Belinda Leong and experienced Michel Suas partnered to bring a dream bakery and cafe to life. Their banana chocolate almond croissant was one of the best pastries we've ever tried. They are also known by locals and visitors for their Kouign Amann, a round crusty cake with layers of sugar folded into the pastry. They offer special variations of the Kouign Amann including chocolate ganache and passion fruit!

3. 20th Century Cafe

Known for their Russian Honey Cake, 20th Century Cafe is a top spot for locals and visitors alike. The cake is deliciously simple, but it requires patience and skill to create. Ten to twelve layers of cake are baked separately and then stacked carefully with sweet icing between each layer. Chef and owner, Michelle Polzine, created the cake recipe inspired by cafes in Europe.

4. Butter Love Bake Shop

Do you love pie? If so, Butter Love Bake Shops is the place to go. Baker and owner, Esa Yonn-Brown, opened the shop with her mother's delicious pie dough thick with chunks of butter that bake into an incredible crust. She and her partner believe that pies should not be reserved for holidays or special occasions, but enjoyed all the time! The shop offers pudding pies, fruit pies, savory pies and even handheld pies that look like lolly pops.

5. Josey the Baker at The MILL

The MILL is a heavenly collaboration between Josey the Baker and Four Barrel coffee. What more could you need than a great pastry paired with great coffee? All  of the pastries and bread are made with the whole grain flour that is ground at the shop using the mill (what the sho pis named for!). Definitely taste some of their toast served with homemade bread. They also have fresh treats like the chocolate claw and the pistachio blackberry croissant.

6. Tartine Bakery

Tartine bakery is a very popular bakery in San Francisco and for good reason. Their shop has a great vibe and cute decorations, but more importantly, the pastries are amazing. Try out their morning bun or chocolate hazelnut tart. Be ready to wait in a little bit of a line, but it will be worth it!

7. Mr. Holmes Bakehouse

Mr. Holmes took the social world by storm with their cruffin pastries - a muffin croissant. The shop is small but cozy and provides delicious coffee and innovative pastries. The cruffin flavor is constantly changing as well as the variety of pastries inside the glass case like their jelly doughnuts. Sometimes internet crazes don't live up to the hype, but we tried the cruffin and it was actually delicious! Head here to try one and snap a picture in front of the iconic "I Got Baked in San Francisco" electric sign.

8. Thorough Bread and Pastry

Thorough Bread and pastry was founded by french chef, Michel Suas, who is a master at his craft. When he moved to San Francisco, he founded the San Francisco Baking Institute. Some of the grads from the school end up working for the Thorough Bread and Pastry shop, so everything is delicious. They have scones, muffins, coffee cake, cream puffs... you name it! The almond croissants are truly some of the best in San Francisco.

9. Devil's Teeth Baking Company

Devil's Teeth Baking Company has one of the best cinnamon rolls you will ever try in your life. Each layer is a sticky mess of sugar that's caramalized the flakey pastry sides together. The recipe was passed down from the baker's grandmother and is a must try. (Get there early, because they can sell out!) Devil's Teeth also offers delicious beignet's, cookies and doughnut muffins which are also worth trying out.

10. Craftsman & Wolves

Craftsman and the Wolves is the brainchild of Chef William Werner, a 2015 and 2016 finalast for the "Outstanding Baker" award from the James Beard Foundation. Their aesthetic is sleek and modern, drawing all focus to the pastries and treats at hand. While their menu constantly changes, the pastries and desserts are consistently delightful!

11. Batter Bakery

Taking classic bakery treats to the next level, Batter Bakery sources all of their fruit from local farmers (except bananas). They make incredible pastries utilizing the produce that is fresh and in season. Batter Bakery has everything from homemade granola to fresh cookies. Try their Triple Chocolate Espresso or Sand Angel.
